About this issue

This August 1954 issue of Famous Western features two novelets and five short stories. "Trailtown" by Lauran Paine explores a town's changing opinion of constable Sam Anders after he quits his lawman role. "Pistol Pardners" by Jim Brewer presents Stan choosing to go straight despite a confrontation with his former outlaw associate. Short fiction includes "Digger John's Bottles" about whisky bottles as unexpected protection in Gold Run; "Gundown for a Saddlebum" by W. J. Reynolds, concerning Andy Nelson's regretted bargain; "Death Tunnel" by Gordon D. Shirreffs, where Slim is uncertain whether he killed Haycox; "End of the Day" by John Lackland involving Henry's cryptic need for protection; and "Judas Set-Up" by Cliff Campbell examining a potential traitor's repeat attempt. Regular features include "Know Your West" by Harold Gluck and "Wanted: Women for Wives" by Lee Thomas.
