About this issue

This October 1950 issue of Famous Western contains ten complete stories. The feature novel, "Satan Rides the Sky" by Edward Churchill, centers on Branch Claiborne, who faces pressure to withdraw from a horse race that has captivated an entire town with betting stakes, despite warnings of foul play. Other stories include "Woman Called Dagger" by John Jo Carpenter, about Webb Holliday choosing humiliation to save his father; "Safe in Boothill" by William O'Sullivan, featuring Joe Hawes confronting death; and "Judge Colt Acquits" by Cliff Campbell. Additional tales include "Digger John and the Pygmy" by A.A. Baker, "When Soil Is Bought by Sixguns" by Lee Floren concerning a gambler opposing legalized murder, "Home Is the Hunter" featuring John High Eagle, and "Big Boss of the Bitter Roots" by Harold F. Cruishank. The issue also includes factual content: "Death's Score Card" by The Lawdog and "Cavalier of the Bird Cage," a true story by W. Edmunds Claussen. Edited by Robert W.
