Inside she discovers a young man, starving and bound by rope from the ceiling, in a catatonic state—apparently neither registering pain nor responding to stimuli. When Zachies returns armed with a machine gun, he confronts Kenn, breaks her rifle, and begins interrogating her about someone called "the Roaring Devil." The narrative suggests Kenn works against Zachies, likely for this mysterious adversary, while a scientific conspiracy involving destroyed laboratory equipment remains unclear.
