About this issue

This issue contains nine stories spanning detective, mystery, and supernatural fiction. The featured complete novel is "The Laugh in the Cellar" by Edward Leonard, which opens with Effie Galt investigating mysterious sounds and a strange laugh emanating from a sealed cellar in an old house at Green's Corners. When the housekeeper Mrs. Marlin reports witnessing a moving shadow descending the cellar stairs despite all external doors being locked, Effie becomes convinced something genuinely haunts the supposedly impossible space. The issue also includes two serials: part two of Nicholas Silver's "Black Shadows of Sawtreli House" and part five (concluding installment) of Carolyn Wells's "Spooky Hollow."
