The study grows dark, and Bedankos materializes before him, a two-meter-tall repulsive creature matching Michael's written description. The monster confronts Michael about his creation, accusing the writer of making him commit senseless violence and murder. During their violent confrontation, as Bedankos strangles Michael, he awakens in bed, believing it a nightmare. Upon waking at noon, Michael finds his wife Sussie absent, having apparently attended Sunday services. The narrative suggests ambiguity between dream and reality regarding the encounter.
