This Spanish pulp horror story concerns Marta, a twenty-year-old aspiring artist employed as assistant to celebrated designer and writer Dudley in London. Dudley has created a character named Spectro—a tall, pale figure with distinctive long nails and haunting eyes dressed in nineteenth-century fashion—who begins to obsess him. After a mental breakdown brought on by overwork, Dudley and his wife Mónica rent an isolated sixteenth-century house in Kent to recuperate, accompanied by Marta. Despite showing initial improvement, Dudley becomes increasingly convinced that Spectro and Spectro's wife exist in reality rather than imagination, claiming to see them in the surrounding mist. When Dudley reports sighting Spectro in a horse-drawn carriage outside Marta's window one evening, she ventures into the foggy forest to prove the apparition imaginary—only to discover actual carriage tracks pressed into the forest floor.
