About this issue

This issue of Beadle and Adams weekly presents the opening installment of "Rollo, the Boy Ranger; Or, The Heiress of the Golden Horn" by Oll Coomes, an adventure serial set on the American frontier. The protagonist is a seventeen-year-old ranger armed with rifle, revolvers, and saber, skilled in horsemanship and reconnaissance. The narrative opens with Rollo witnessing a settlement's execution of a captured outlaw named Dick Sherwood—a renegade who infiltrated the post disguised as an Indian. Rollo intercepts three attacking Sioux warriors before summoning allied Indian forces to defend Clontarf's Post against a war party.
