About this issue

This serialized adventure romance by Buffalo Bill (Col. W. F. Cody), published by Beale & Adams, follows Texas Jack, a skilled lasso artist and gunman, as he intervenes in a Mexican plaza scene. Major Don Miguel Sandos, a Mexican cavalry officer, confronts Pedro Baez, leader of the outlaw "Robber Rangers of the Rio Grande," demanding he disband or face outlawry. When Baez refuses and prepares to shoot the unarmed officer, Texas Jack lassoes him from a balcony, breaking his neck. This act saves Sandos but incites the ranger band's desire for vengeance. Their confrontation is interrupted by Marlo Fuentes, a wealthy, aristocratic ranchero with a mysterious past involving family exile, who arrives on horseback. The narrative emphasizes action, duels, and the dangerous borderland setting between Mexico and Texas.
