About this issue

Kent Keene's Knock-Out: A Story of the Red Raiders of Blue Jacket by John W. Osbon, featured in this February 26, 1896 issue of Beadle and Adams's weekly publication. The serialized Western adventure follows Kent Keene, a young outlaw, who receives orders from a dying old chief—his father—to pose as a detective and recover the Estell mining fortune, stolen fifteen years ago by the miser Solomon Zebender. Keene is given proof of Zebender's murder of Ishmael Estell and tasked with locating Edith Estell, the victim's daughter, to reclaim the estate. The narrative shifts to Blue Jacket, where the dapper stranger "Red Belt, the Sport" arrives and immediately confronts Cool Cy, a crooked gambler, in a violent barroom altercation after Cy attempts to provoke him with a thrown drink.
