About this issue

This issue of Beadle's Dime Library (Vol. LV, No. 838) features "Old Grip's Still Hunt: Bank Robbers Round-Up" by Jackson Knox (Old Hawk). The detective tale follows Edward Crimmins, alias Old Grip, pursuing a fugitive bank thief. Disguised as a countryman delivering milk, Grip encounters a woman at an isolated haunted house in Westchester County and learns she is Maud Markham, wife of suspected bank robber Claude Markham. The woman gives Grip a letter to deliver to Henry Moresby in New York City—a ruse Grip recognizes as part of her husband's scheme. Removing his disguise, Grip shadows Maud as she changes into masculine tourist attire and carries provisions up a mountain trail, revealing she's supplying her fugitive husband. Grip follows, overhearing her mention warning about his pursuit before she disappears deeper into the rocky wilderness.
