Gid Gale's Block Game: Or, Old Silvertip's Tie-Up at Tangled Pine By Lieut. A. K. Sims (1894; Beadle and Adams) A stage bound for Tangled Pine, Colorado, is attacked by a masked road agent seeking bullion. The driver abandons his post and passengers. One male passenger resists violently but is knocked unconscious when the agent flees. The spooked horses race toward a canyon rim, threatening female passenger Rosie Farnall. A slight, beardless horseman pursues, attempting to stop the runaway team. In the rescue effort, the horseman shoots a lead horse, causing the coach to plunge onto a lower canyon shelf. The horseman descends via improvised rope and finds Rosie alive but frightened. Gid Gale, the gold-camp detective and fellow passenger, recovers consciousness and searches for Rosie, fearing the worst.
