About this issue

This issue of New York Family Story Paper contains "The Crook Detective's Pull, Or, the Round-About-Town Female Reporter" by William H. Manning, a crime serial. The narrative opens in a sailors' boarding-house operated by the brutal, small-headed Babe Brazer, where a conspiracy is underway. Babe, a veiled woman hired by the criminal Rod Stacey, and Tim O'Killen plot to murder a man named Paulus Andrews who has been brought to them intoxicated. However, when Babe illuminates the prisoner's face, the veiled woman inexplicably faints in shock, having evidently recognized something in the man's appearance. She demands proof of his identity and insists that Rodman Stacey himself be summoned, disrupting the planned murder. The OCR is partially garbled in places but establishes the story as a crime mystery with unexpected complications.
