This Beadle and Adams dime novel serializes "Detective Burr's Seven Clues" by Harold Payne. The story opens with Inspector Byrnes assigning detective Thaddeus Burr an apparently straightforward case: Italian artist Vincenzo Gazippe is found dead from a bullet wound in his studio, with a pistol nearby. Initial theory suggests suicide, though some suspect his undraped model, Sylvia Carbonetti, committed murder. Burr immediately identifies oversights: a bullet hole in the painting Gazippe was completing, indicating the shot passed through the canvas—evidence the police missed. The pistol bears Gazippe's initials, suggesting someone familiar with him staged the suicide. Burr discovers torn card fragments in the model's dressing room bearing a threatening Italian message: a lover's ultimatum threatening death. When Burr consults Italian lawyer Scovello about the note, Scovello attacks him with a knife, suggesting deeper vendetta connections.
