About this issue

This serialized Western adventure romance by William G. Patten features a young Denver man named Loyal Kingdon who arrives at the Arizona mining town of Kicker's Bar intent on exploring the legendary Devil's Mountains. In the Full Hand Saloon, he meets Yuma Yank Rollins, a prospector who recounts the mountains' sinister reputation: men who venture there vanish entirely, and local legend claims the Devil himself inhabits an opening within the peaks leading to infernal regions. A mysterious figure called Diamond Dion allegedly frequents the mountains and emerges occasionally for gambling. Kingdon reveals his true purpose—seeking a hidden treasure of already-mined gold cached in the Devil's Mountains, promising millionaire wealth to its discoverer. As their conversation concludes, a beautiful young woman of seventeen or eighteen bursts into the saloon, disheveled and desperate, pursued by two ruffianly men claiming to be her father, seeking to recapture her against her will.
