About this issue

This issue of the pulp weekly contains the opening of "Roldan and His Rovers: The Story of the 'Ranch Accursed'" by Wm. R. Eyster, a Western adventure serial. The protagonist, Gilt-Edge Johnny, encounters a mysterious woman and her companion burying a female corpse by moonlight in a remote valley. Following them to a distant hacienda, Johnny returns to his camp where he hears violin music. Investigating, he discovers another woman (dressed in men's clothing) and an older man by a fire. A cougar stalks them; Johnny kills the beast by knife as it springs, collapsing at the campfire's edge. The narrative emphasizes suspense, frontier danger, and the gradual revelation of interconnected mysteries surrounding the valley and its inhabitants.
