About this issue

This issue of Beadle and Adams weekly contains "Two Reporter Detectives in Colorado; or, Buckskin Bob's Snap-Shot," a romance of Colorado by Howard M. Boynton. The story follows Dick Vinton and Bert Carmly ("Lord Carmly"), experienced reporter-detectives for the New York Daily Gazette and London Press respectively, as they pursue Allan Theiss, an absconding bank cashier who stole half a million dollars and fraudulently obtained valuable mining stocks from a widow, Mrs. Rogers. After receiving encrypted orders in a train, the partners split their investigation: Vinton heads directly to the mining town of Amacas in Colorado, infiltrating through a traveling minstrel troupe run by showman Austin, while Carmly investigates Indianapolis and Philadelphia. The narrative emphasizes their contrasting personalities—Vinton athletic and daring, Carmly refined and methodical—and their proven record as the "Partner Detectives."
