About this issue

New York Nat in Colorado; or, Gentleman Jack's Resurrection by Col. Prentiss Ingraham continues this serialized adventure. The narrative opens with a stagecoach holdup en route to a mining camp, where the tenderfoot "New York Nat" shoots three outlaws attempting to kidnap a young miner named "Gentleman Jack" Hammond. Jack mysteriously disappears that night despite plans to travel east together. Months later, back in New York, Nat discovers a newspaper advertisement calling for Hammond's return—suggesting foul play. Nat leads a secret organization called the Unknown Ferrets (boy detectives) operating from a haunted mansion. He assigns his sister Olive, disguised and veiled as the group's mascot, to infiltrate an elegant Madison Avenue household as a lady's maid, investigating the connection between the Hammond advertisement and the kidnapping conspiracy. Nat himself visits the household's mistress, Helen Benson, to gather information about Hammond's whereabouts.
