About this issue

This issue contains "Broadway Billy Materializing the Spooks, or The Romance of the Rundle Case" by J. C. Cowdrick, part of the Broadway Billy series. The narrative opens on Billy's twenty-first birthday. Having established a successful store with his partner "Skinny," Billy celebrates by opening a private detective office on Broadway under the name William Weston. He hires a street boy called "Happy Harry" to serve as his assistant detective, bringing him into his household. The Metropolitan Police Chief visits Billy's new office—significantly positioned as his first caller—to offer encouragement and hint at bringing him a case. The story traces Billy's progression from boy detective to professional investigator, while simultaneously establishing Happy Harry as the new boy detective on the streets.
