About this issue

Beadle and Adams dime novel (March 29, 1892). "The White Sioux Queen," a serialized frontier adventure by Colonel Prentiss Ingraham, follows two renegade white men: Sam Jenness ("the Red Scalper") and Brad ("Chief Red Hair"), a handsome, red-haired deserter commanding the Sioux. Jenness arrives at Red Hair's mountain village bearing urgent warning that Captain Emmett and one hundred bordermen, supported by three military forts, plan imminent attack. Red Hair learns that Jenness has returned from Texas with devastating news: a woman Red Hair sought is dead, her husband having died a year prior. The narrative establishes a large, strategically fortified Sioux encampment with herds and advance signal posts. Dashing Charlie and his uncle's intervention with a "Beautiful Sioux Queen" protecting them from the warriors are referenced. The story combines military strategy, frontier conflict, and personal tragedy.
