About this issue

This issue of Beadle's Dime Novels features "The Mountain Amazon's Double Game" by E. L. Wheeler, author of the "Deadwood Dick" series. Set in Gale's Camp, Arizona, the story opens with the arrival of Mlle. Belle, a female prizefighter billed as "The Female Sullivan," who challenges local toughs to boxing matches for money. The narrative introduces Deadwood Dick, Jr., who wrestles "Reverend" Jacob Fern—a charlatan preacher—and wins handily. Mlle. Belle then fights Jim-Jam Jake, defeating him decisively. Dick subsequently accepts her challenge for a hundred-dollar wager, with the fight itself beginning as the installment concludes. The tone combines frontier adventure with humor, featuring colorful frontier dialect and various mining-camp characters betting on the outcome.
