This issue of Beadle's Dime Library (April 22, 1890) features "Warbling Willan' Home Run" by Lieutenant A. K. Sims, a Western adventure serial. The protagonist, "Jolly Jeremiah" Jackson, arrives at the Double Dagger Ranch via mail stage. After proving his worth in a wrestling match against Placer Jim, a brawny cowboy who initially mocks him, Jeremiah secures employment. He meets the ranch's young female foreman, Miss Madge Farrington, the brown-eyed woman who had observed him singing from the house window. Present is Pearl, Madge's blue-eyed sister, and Captain Philip Gaston, a former Army officer recovering from mountain fever and reportedly engaged to Pearl. Gaston regards Jeremiah with evident jealousy and suspicion as Madge converses with the new hire.
