About this issue

This Beadle and Adams dime novel (No. 585, October 9, 1888) features "Marked With a Triangle" by H. Benton, a serial adventure tale. Will Waters, an eighteen-year-old grocery clerk in Yonkers, is falsely accused of theft by his tyrannical employer Mr. Morris and his wife. After striking Morris in self-defense, Will flees, becoming a fugitive pursued by townspeople. On the road to New York, he encounters a young woman who jumps from a carriage, begging rescue; the driver claims she's insane. When Waters refuses to release her, the driver strikes him unconscious. Later, a constable from Yonkers pursues Waters again. A sympathetic stranger named Roger Brant, a businessman who lost his memory in a shipwreck ten years prior, offers Waters a ride. Brant recounts his strange tale of amnesia and missing identity, while Waters becomes interested in solving both mysteries.
