About this issue

This Beadle and Adams dime novel, "The Golden Hand; or, Dandy Rock to the Rescue" by George Waldo Browne, presents a Western adventure centered on a cursed mining claim. The narrative follows Dandy Rock and Silver Dust (Dustin Dare) as they encounter the mysterious Lost Mine in Arizona's Black Pocket, where twelve miners—the Redmond brothers and Greenwood's party—were killed a year prior when Cape Horn blocked the ravine and set forest fires, trapping them inside. The story pivots to the appearance of the enigmatic Golden Hand, a figure adorned with golden ornaments, who confronts the "League in Black," twelve identically-dressed masked riders who claim to be the spirits of the dead miners. The Golden Hand challenges them, recognizing the leader as Leon Redmond. The narrative breaks mid-duel, leaving the confrontation unresolved while Silver Dust becomes trapped by the League.
