About this issue

The Heiress of the Golden Horn (serialized feature, author Oll Coomes). Rollo, the Boy Ranger, a seventeen-year-old ranger in frontier Iowa, witnesses settlers executing the renegade Dick Sherwood near Clontarf's Post. Rollo interprets Sherwood's cryptic final words as a supernatural threat and dashes to warn the settlement. He kills three Indian warriors in combat on the prairie, then signals mounted Sioux warriors approaching the fort. Rollo swims his horse across the river to reach the settlement before an attack, apparently intending to defend it while the settlers are occupied with the execution. The narrative combines frontier action with mystery—Sherwood's taunting remarks suggest hidden knowledge or malevolent purpose beyond his impending death.
