About this issue

This 1896 Beadle and Adams weekly serial, authored by Col. Prentiss Ingraham, follows Buffalo Bill and his young Texan companions as they pursue criminals connected to the unsolved death of a mail rider. The narrative centers on four bound outlaws being transported by stagecoach, including Doc Driggs, who manage to escape their bonds. When driver Buck Dawson refuses their bribery and resists their attempted robbery, a gunfight ensues. Dawson wounds one outlaw fatally but is shot dead by Driggs. The outlaws recover gold shipment and escape with three horses, leaving Dawson's body behind. The story combines frontier action with themes of courage, honesty, and revenge as Buffalo Bill's team pursues justice for the murdered mail rider.
