The ship's captain and mate rescue survivors including a dying woman named Mrs. Jonathan Gould, her infant daughter Virginia, and her unpleasant cousin Anthony Gould. Mrs. Gould fears for her daughter's inheritance, suspecting Anthony's designs. "A Brand New World" by Ray Cummings concerns a war of worlds; "The Crime Circus" by George F. Worts involves a case that rocks a state; "Trouble Ranch" by George M. Johnson (five parts) features speed and brains against shady dealing. Complete stories include "Send Me the Bill" by Albert Chenicek, "Kill Him, Jimmie—or I Will" by W. Wirt (rum and Chicago law), "Recluses" by Raymond S. Spears (dog, wolf, and man), and "Gifford Pinchot's Battle With a Somnambulist" by Bob Davis (sea adventure).
