About this issue

This issue of The Nugget Library (No. 87, April 2, 1891) features "Grimesy's Pair of Kids" by Will Winner. The story follows two hotel clerks, Grimesy and Merty, who orchestrate a chaotic mix-up when two groups arrive simultaneously: prize-fighters Tug Morris and Mickey "the Slugger" Hooly registering under false ministerial names, and genuine preachers expecting to meet missionary colleagues. Through a series of mistaken room assignments, the clerks send each group to the wrong destination, resulting in violent confrontations. The prize-fighters clash with one group of ministers, while another missionary delegation finds themselves among the pugilists. The narrative culminates in fight sequences and comedic confusion as the groups finally untangle themselves. The story concludes with Grimesy and Merty seeking food and drink from the pantry.
