THE LAST. OF A GIANT RACE! Will be the leading character of | Beadle’s Dime Novels, No. 318, THE STONE CHIEF ; The Last of the Red Giants... BY W. J. FLAMILTON, Auraor or “ Tus Grant Curer,” “ Tare Srrent SLAYER,” ETC. A race of giants were the reigning chiefs of the Onondagas. Noted both for their size and their warlike spirit, the “ Stone Chiefs ” were envied by all the other tribes—many of whom sought to obtain men from-the giant race for their leaders. This fine story brings out one of these chosen men, who, having in early age been taken by the St. Regis, became a noted St. Regis warrior. By the fortunes of war the Onondagas lost their grand race of chiefs, and in the St. Regis warrior alone flowed the blood of the’ Stove Men.” To reclaim him and make him chief of the Onondagas, the latter made a fierce attempt for capture, when the Giant Chief was on an expedition, alone, in the Onondaga country, to secure a beautiful Indian girl, whom he loved, for his wife. This is the starting point in the wild and powerful story which the author here narrates. A Yankee trader “ sails into” the drama in a characteristic way, and soon becomes a leader in a singular quest, in whic, a young American major soon mingles, and as the story opens out a epenian peg and his lovely daughter become in- volved. he pictures of forest life and adventure are brilliantly drawn, and the story, as such, one of all-absorbing interest and originality.
