AUTHENTIC SCIENCE FICTION The driver got out, cursing with fright. Gavin could not move. - “Hey, what’s the idea? She threw herself under the wheels. It wasn’t my fault, d’ya hear me? Look, bud, you saw her... it wasn’t my fault.” “No,” said Gavin, blankly. “It wasn’t your fault.” Perhaps the fault was his own. If he hadn’t walked out... But you could keep going a long way back before you fetched up against what started it all. If he hadn’t walked out, if she hadn’t driven him to desperation, if he hadn’t been too idle to assert himself all the times he should have done... If he hadn’t married her...
