THE LOG-BOOK. France to negotiate with Napoleon for the purchase of the Louisiana terri- tory. It is just the sort of thing Terhune is best at, and instead of getting it in two parts, as you would have in the old days, you get it complete, and it is al- most a book-length novel. So the April number, with about six short stories, will be about as fine a proposition in the form of a complete magazine as you have ever had in your hands. If you can't find reading to suit you in this April number, there ts certainly something wrong somewhere —it is the biggest fifteen cents’ worth of fiction that has ever passed through 955 my hands, taking it by and large, and considering the fact that it is every line complete, with not a story to be fin- ished at some future time, leaving a mortgage on what you buy and read. Be sure you order the April ArRGosy .—I am willing to stand on it as the best number of THr Arcosy I have ever produced. And if you like Og- den, be sure you send me a line to that effect, because ] want to sign him up for another novel—and grab him for Tur Arcosy before some other maga- zine editor discovers what he is worth as a fiction maker. Remember — order April ARGosyY. the complete FROM THE ADMIRAL’S DESPATCH BAG Many of our old friends are with us this month with glory-bes and growls, and as I have handed them out about as they came, | am not going to say much about the letters. They speak for themselves pretty well. Be sure and let me know what you think of Tur Arcosy as a complete maga- zine. Missouri Has Doubts Eprror, ArGosy: I must say that one of the best stories I ever read was “ The Waters of Strife,” in the November Arcosy. I also want to con- gratulate you on printing “An Enemy Hath Done This.” Why do you not pub- lish Tur Arcosy twice a month? I have stopped reading it three times because it does not come often enough, but I always go back to it. It has been in the family for ten years, and is going to stay. I am enclosing a year’s subscription. Some Doubting Thomases think the letters in the Log-Book are fakes, EF. A. WupBeN Horst. Liberty, Missouri, R. F. D. 1. Perhaps if all Tue Arcosy readers de- “mand the magazine twice a month they will get it, and each number complete in each issue at that.—Eprror. * * oe * Georgia Girl Replies Eprtor, Arcosy: For shame! Mr. Crean, don’t you know that Mr. Lovecraft says it isn’t correct to use “outlandish” words, and my diction- ary doesn’t show the word “ lookable.” However, as “Cy” came to my rescue very gallantly, and you also say “keep Jackson,” I'll forgive you for using such words. Am quite sure Mr. Lovecraft spent an awfully long time over his dictionary, but if he and the brilliant Mr. Bennett will stop a minute to think they will recall that reading magazines they don’t like is not compulsory. Let Tur Arcosy alone; can’t any of you do any better than our present editor. “ GrorciA GIRL.” Atlanta, Georgia. a * * Wants Old Argosy Eprror, Arcosy : I just picked up the December Arcosy, the first ['d seen in two years, and was starting to renew old acquaintances. I read two pages, skimmed over the contents, and then put it down, feeling as if I had lost a brother. Where, oh where, are gone the stories of yesterday? Where are the stories that made our blood tingle and kept us in a fever of excitement from one issue to an- other—such tales as ‘‘ Land of Lost Hope” and the other thrillers? I know I am only one of many who pre- fer the old way, and I for one would be willing to pay fifteen cents to have the dear old dime magazine back again. As for the big story, “The Motor Buccaneers,” it looks like it is the best, from the two pages Gomichbooks (E@)
