Taking Wells. ‘he only two of his yarns which ean really be described as scientifiction are The Time Machine aud The War of the Worlds, and there is very little scienee in them. In my opinion, the science is only a cloak to allow Mr. Wells to air his views on civilization, what it is, where it is. leading us, and how little it would take to upset it, The War of the lorlds 1s poor meat, anyway. He belongs to the bygone Victorian era, with his Jong, windbay- ging dissertations on trivial matters. No douht Tiles Verne was a genius in the generation in which he lived, but his ancient writings leave a taste of senility in the mouth, Hicks Inventions with a Kick.’ Yes, a high kick. Mr. Simmons ought to be kicked. Why, oh why ate these: abominations printed in Axaztyc Srorizs? Amazing! Scientifiction! Hear me Jngh ! : The best story that has appeared in AxscaziInc Storms so far is The Moon Pc with The Secoud Deluge running a goad second, : Mr. Merritt is a genius. The People of the Pit and The Face wm the Abvss were great. Other yarns that tickled me were The Greew Splotches, Star of Dead Love and The Mad Planet. The Mad Planet contained the best science of any of these, im my opinion. s The Astounding Discoveries of Dy, Mentiroso could have been called better, “The puerile vapsr- ings of a diseased mind, If Dr, Mentiroso went round the world with the speed of light, 1¢ ts obvi- ous that he must consume time in so doing, A mathematical. absurcity built into a story.
