The page contains story prose under "Chapter One: Blonde and Luscious!" alongside a dramatic black-and-white illustration showing a woman's body lying on the ground near what appears to be a building or structure. The visible text depicts a narrator at a horse race, disappointed with a losing bet and reflecting on his contempt for Lou Klein, a gambler, when a mysterious stranger asks if he "guards bodies"—to which the narrator replies, "Live ones."

CHAPTER ONE Blonde and Luscious! OU had said the horse couldn’t LL lose. He was sharp and willing. But as I stood there in the howling mob, watching the pack thunder across the finish line, the horse ‘with my next to iast ten bucks’ looked as sharp as a marble, as willing as a hangman’s guest. He came galloping along as though wondering which way the others had gone. I couldn’t blame the jockey, except maybe for dragging his feet on the turns. But my affection for Louw Klein, the gam- bler, was the affection yon’d have for fuel oil on your oatmeal. I was turning away when a hard, quiet voice! said, ““You guard bodies ?”’ 4 I glanced up in surprise. ‘Live ones,” ¥ 4 ’ ‘ , 4 cs if ## ? i? t £ f is x, th , iT $ 4 | Z Z Y - A a 4 f y y ~~ ¥ , Z se / 2 , * Z my | ee | ee ee ‘ Zz thy, 2 Ah: fe ‘ fg fox a4 ~ = r- —_ “ — "oie: ¢ ~* Z = = ~~ = = J <= Pe Sa ASZZ7ZZAZZ” THREE’S A SHROUD Gomichbooks
