Yet, even as she spoke, she was convinced that her conjecture was not true. They involuntarily quickened their footsteps. And. the slouching figure in their rear followed their ex- ample. ‘Oh, let us run—run!’’ Stella whispered, ‘seized with a sudden, overwhelming fear.
