Iam happy to-night for the first time since I was sixteen years of age. It is a true saying, ‘revenge is sweet.’ ” ‘“We shall get money, too, mother. That thing, that perfumed doll, that imbecile new Karl of Cuthbert will pay dearly for all his past scorn.” The words were hissed .between set teeth, and his dark face looked murderous. The conference lasted till midnight, and Prescot slept at | the cottage that night, and only left it at noon the follow- ing day to proceed to the office of the White Star line of steamers, where he transaoted some business.
