A second more and he would have met him with a blow similar to that used a minute before, but he was deprived of the opportunity. Josh Joggens, however, was not the man to stand idle or succumb tamely, when a foe was rushing upon him like a runaway engine. Nevertheless, Windstrom, fearful that his friend could not save himself, made a frantic dash to do something if possible for the man who had periled his life many a time for him, and for whom he was now eager to risk his own.
