It is a wonderful piece of work. The legal proceedings against Snyder and the gang are put through with a rush, and they receive va- _ rious sentences, from fifteen years down to five, ac- cording to their merit. It is a clean sweep. None are left to form a nucleus for a new hive. Even Ben Bolt goes in for eight years, and is greatly taken aback to learn during the trial that the man he had taken such a fancy to, the old sailor man, Caddy Cole, was no other than the detective who had devoted his energies to run- ning the gang to earth.
