Susannah took a candle from the table, and eagerly pushed open a door, which. was behind the chair in which she} had been sitting. The bed in which the fainting Clara was lying, was within 2 few pacesofher. _ Susannah advanced close to Clara’s bedside, and was looking upon the poor patient with eyes full of commiseration. But her gaze had searcely fallen upon the features of Clara, when her own expressed extraordinary emotion, Clara opened her burning eyelids, for she had felt a kiss upon her hand. Her dream appeared | to continue—that was her first thought, but bow truly sweet and celestial was it then! The angels of her former dreams were not so beautiful as this woman, with her friendly smile, who appeared to her to be the goed genius ef hope and merey. Clara gazed upon her with charming eyes, and her moanings ceased.
