Despite Flores’s perfect self-control, his gaze fell before that of the young girl. ‘‘Did you ever know me to tell you what was not true?” he returned, with a show of haughtiness which Ninada knew almost instinctively to be assumed. Before she could reply, Tom came hurrying up to the veranda. ‘‘Whar’s Mist’ Briscoe?
