But as he still continued to struggle, one of the men proceeded calmly to trip him up, and then sat down on his arms while the other planted himself on his feet. “Tt’s no use, Master Raoul, you can do nothing. It was the only way to save your life,” whispered a voice in his ear, which he recognized as that of Simon Beppa, and though inwardly raging at his helplessness, he was forced to submit. The venerable admiral, who had won so many vic- tories for his country and his king, drew his stately figure up to its full height. “Tam he,” he replied, calmly. ‘“ But beware, young sir, before you stain your hands with my blood. I am a wounded and helpless man! But why should I waste breath?
