62 DARKE DARRELL. Leotine stood near, her hands in the pockets of her jaunty little apron, a concentrated look on her face, as if she did not quite trust Aunt Carlina, after all. Darke seated himself at the table, seized a pen, Aree a sheet of paper toward him, and commenced to write. He looked up and saw that Tim Jordan did not need watching. Darke was seated above a trap-door. It suddenly gave way, and he was precipitated through the floor of the library into a vault beneath it. He caught at the sides of the opening, but that did not serve him. As he sank down, he cast a quick, reproachful look toward Leotine, and the trap-door glided back into its place. comicbooks:¢o
