Richard John Lloyd Price of Rhiwlas — 'Pointers'

Leslie Ward ('Spy') portrays Lloyd Price — Welsh landowner, sporting enthusiast, and celebrated breeder of pointer dogs — in full country kit: tweed Norfolk jacket and waistcoat, plus-fours, red stockings, buckled ankle boots, and a battered felt hat. He cradles a break-action shotgun in the crook of his left arm and trails a leather dog-lead from his right hand. The caption, 'pointers', is a double pun on his famous kennel and his role as an authority figure in field sports. The caricature exaggerates his ruddy, bearded face and solid build. Price was also known for promoting sheepdog trials at Bala, making him a recognisable figure in late-Victorian sporting society.
