Andrew Graham Murray, 1st Viscount Dunedin — 'Lord Advocate'

Leslie Ward ('Spy') presents Andrew Graham Murray, then Scotland's Lord Advocate and future Viscount Dunedin, in conspicuously informal dress: a three-piece olive tweed suit with knickerbockers, striped shooting stockings, a red carnation buttonhole, and a bow tie over a salmon waistcoat — country-gentleman ease worn as political self-presentation. Both hands are pocketed, the posture unhurried, the moustache trim. The caption simply reads 'Lord Advocate'. The plate appeared on 22 October 1896 at plate number 680 in the Statesmen series. Ward's caricature is mild — no grotesque distortion — reflecting Murray's reputation as a capable, uncontroversial Unionist law officer who would go on to serve as Secretary for Scotland and Lord President of the Court of Session.
