This issue features the serial "Young Wild West at a Cowboy 'Shindig': or, Arietta Calling a Bluff," credited to "An Old Scout." The Western adventure tale opens with Young Wild West and his traveling party—including his sweetheart Arietta Murdock, scout Cheyenne Charlie and his wife Anna, Jim Dart and his sweetheart Eloise Gardner, and two Chinese employees—encountering a pursued ranchman named Bill Ross in Wyoming grazing country. Ross flees seven discharged cowboys led by one called Digger, who intend to beat him for dismissing them after discovering cattle theft. Young Wild West intervenes, insisting on legal proceedings before allowing violence. When Digger refuses explanation and attempts to strike the boy, Wild responds with a precisely aimed punch between the eyes, then offers to fight. Cheyenne Charlie covers the cowboys with drawn revolvers, threatening gunfire if they interfere. The narrative tension centers on whether the outnumbered heroes can protect Ross through force of will and marksmanship.
