This issue features fiction spanning horror, fantasy, and weird adventure. The cover story is "The Witches' Sabbath" (Part 1) by Stephen Bagby, a two-part serial about devil-worship, witchcraft, and the Black Mass. Arthur Machen's "The Green Monster" depicts a creature emerging from university cloisters to turn on its creator. "The Space-Eaters" by Frank Belknap Long, Jr. describes a menace approaching Earth from beyond the solar system. August W. Derleth's "The Three-Storied House" explores the depressing psychological effects certain dwellings inflict on a man named Johnson. "Tony the Faithful" by W.K. Mashbum, Jr. is a Southern ghost story with a dog protagonist. The concluding installment of "The Bat-Men of Thorium" (Bertram Russell) involves a submarine and underwater civilization. Willis Knapp Jones contributes "The Man Who Remembered," set among the Incas and Peruvian jungles. Additional stories include "The Grappling Ghost," "The Statue of Anuta," "Symphonic Death" (a revenge tale from beyond the grave), and Machen's reprint "The Bowmen," famous for inspiring WWI phantom archer legends.
