This June 1928 issue of Weird Tales magazine features diverse supernatural and science fiction stories. The lead story, "The Devil's Martyr" by Signe Toksvig, depicts a conflict between Father Sebastian and a mysterious knight named Michael of Lynas over young Erik of Visby, a sensitive boy in the Bishop's custody being prepared for monastic life. Seabury Quinn contributes "The Serpent Woman," another Jules de Grandin tale involving a missing child and a giant snake. The issue includes Everil Worrell's aviation-reincarnation story "The Elemental Law," Wilford Allen's "The Hate" (about retribution from a murderer's legacy through World War), and Edmond Hamilton's "The Dimension Terror" (catastrophe from the fifth dimension). H.P. Lovecraft's "The Lurking Fear" appears, alongside August Derleth's brief Borgia story and Bertram Russell's serial "The Bat-Men of Thorium" set in a Pacific submarine civilization. The issue also reprints Washington Irving's classic "The Specter Bridegroom" and includes verse and nonfiction.
