Features six detective and mystery stories: "The Pluperfect Lady" (a Saint novelet by Charteris, set in guerrilla-troubled Malaya involving a plantation owner named Lavis and his wife); "The Death Stone" by Cornell Woolrich, narrated in first-person by a woman; "The Treasure of Mr. Reeder" by Edgar Wallace, concerning ill-gotten police wealth; "A Case for Colonel March" by Carter Dickson (alias John Dickson Carr), from his "Department of Queer Complaints"; "Alias the Killer" by George Harmon Coxe, featuring a cop trying to escape his killer reputation; and "The Missing Diamond" by Hugh Wiley, featuring James Lee, a Chinese detective. Editor Charteris praises Dickson/Carr as the finest puzzle-mystery writer.
