S.I.P. #57: ¡SOS, Tierra!

This Spanish-language pulp magazine from 1960 contains the serialized science fiction story "¡S.O.S., Tierra!" (S.O.S., Earth!) by W. Sampas. The narrative begins with Lewis Bernados, a photojournalist on Mars, attempting to contact Earth's Spacial International Police (SIP) to report evidence of a dangerous masked criminal called "El Mutilador" (The Mutilator). During his videophone call with Inspector Hendrick Mason in Washington, an encapuchado (hooded figure) enters Bernados's apartment and attacks him on camera before destroying the communication device. Mason witnesses the murder and rushes to Mars to investigate. He discovers Bernados's mutilated corpse—beheaded and with both hands severed and removed. Captain Jerry Meredith reveals this is the third similar killing in the month, each victim missing their head and hands. Mason begins investigating, receiving authorization to continue the case despite its Martian jurisdiction, as Bernados had reported the threat directly to SIP.
