December 1901 issue of Munsey's Magazine featuring theatrical content. The lead article, "John Drew and His Plays," chronicles actor John Drew's career trajectory. Drew, born 1853, made his theatrical debut at age twenty in "Cool as a Cucumber" at his mother's Arch Street Theater in Philadelphia (March 22, 1873). He spent thirteen years with Augustin Daly's company, appearing in German comedies adapted by Daly including "The Big Bonanza" (1877) and "Pique." Drew's stellar debut occurred September 1892 in the French-adapted comedy "The Masked Ball" at Milwaukee's Davidson Theater, with Maude Adams. Subsequent vehicles included "Butterflies," "The Bauble Shop," "The Liars," and "The Tyranny of Tears." His current production is "The Second in Command," by Captain Marshall. The issue also includes a biographical section on E. H. Sothern, born December 6, 1859 in New Orleans, whose theatrical lineage derives from his father's association with "Our American Cousin."
