This August 1930 issue of Astounding Stories contains seven science-fiction stories spanning planetary exploration and technological threats. "The Planet of Dread" by R. F. Starzl opens the issue as the cover feature: Mark Forepaugh, stationed at a trading post on minor planet Inra, discovers hydrogen cylinders intended to power his integrating machine are empty. Stranded with depleted power supplies and dwindling resources, he faces increasingly hostile native lifeforms—a giant mold invading through ventilation and a six-foot amoeba called the Ul-lul observing him through the sealed station window. Other contents include "The Lord of Space" by Victor Rousseau (a threat to Earth from Eros), "The Second Satellite" by Edmond Hamilton (conflict with alien creatures), "Silver Dome" by Harl Vincent, "Earth, the Marauder" by Arthur J. Burks (Part Two involving moon tunnels), "Murder Madness" by Murray Leinster (conclusion of a story involving poisoned hands), and "The Flying City" by H. Thompson Rich (invasion by disc-dwelling dwarfs).
