# The Fate of the Hara Diamond

This serial, appearing in The Argos (September 1891), continues Chapter XXXIV of "The Fate of the Hara Diamond." The narrator, Jasmin, and Captain Ducie flee Bon Repos after midnight, traveling by boat across Windermere to reach a train to London. Captain Ducie, nursing a shoulder wound, registers at the Salisbury Hotel under the alias "Mr. Stonor," insisting on a secure bedroom with controlled access. While Ducie recovers over ten days, Jasmin searches newspapers and discovers that M. Platzoff has died—ostensibly from opium-smoking and heart disease, though Jasmin suspects Captain Ducie's involvement and believes the Captain possesses the valuable Hara Diamond. When Ducie attempts to dispatch Jasmin back to Windermere, Jasmin bribes the night-porter Dickson to help him fake his departure, planning to remain in London to pursue the diamond.
